It is easy to think that because we are Christians, nothing bad will happen to us. But God did not redeem us from hard times; he redeemed us from the calamity that is sure to come when we try to face those hard times on our own.
When the waters rise and the winds begin to blow there is only one thing that will save us from destruction-- our foundation.
When Jesus died on the cross he made it possible for us to run to him in times of trouble, and it is only by building a foundation of rock that we will truly be able to weather the storm.
"Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken." Psalm 62:2
Instead of running away when we see a storm approaching, we need to learn how to lean on our Rock. When we allow ourselves to trust in him, he promises that he will get us through the hard times and that we will come out even better than when we went in.
